Art Summary for 2012

January: Drawing method: Mouse

I was VERY new to drawing on a computer. I also used bases pretty often. I felt i needed to blur EVERYTHING to make it look good! xD

February: Drawing method: Mouse

This is when i started watching anime on a regular basis. I would pause the show and draw what i saw. That's really all i did. I would draw it on paper and then line and color it.

March: Drawing method: Mouse

I started getting a few requests from deviants, which i liked. It told me that people liked my art. I still used bases but not as much as i would. I also liked to used the same background for all my picture.

April: Drawing method: Mouse

I tried to think of bases as an evil spirit or something to try and help myself improve on anatomy. Not much else happened that month.

May: Drawing method: Tablet

After my 8th grade graduation, i went and bought myself a tablet (I got a Wacom Bamboo Capture). I almost didn't buy it because i didn't think it would help me all that much, but I'm so glad I did! Having a tablet to draw with helps (I think) with both digital and traditional art because it's like drawing with pen and paper. This is when my artwork really started to improve.

Still mostly working on anatomy. Tried a lot of different styles trying to ind the one i liked best.

July: Drawing method: Tablet

I played around with paint tool sai a lot to find out what all i could do with it. My submissions slowed down because i was working on summer homework for my freshman Pre-AP classes.

August: Drawing method: Tablet

Barely anything this month because I started High School. Had homework just about every single day so i didn't get that much time to work on art. The piece in the picture is my graphic design notebook cover that i had to make for the class.

September: Drawing method: Tablet

Still experimenting with different styles. Also really tried to improve my coloring skill. I still used really non creative backgrounds; they are my weakness.

October: Drawing method: Tablet

My anatomy skills i think really improved around this time. Same with my backgrounds.

November: Drawing method: Tablet

I had a lot more time to draw this month because I wasn't assigned all that much homework. I also tried a more black Butler-ish style which i really liked. I ended up changing it a little until i found a style a really liked, but, knowing me, i will probably change it again at one point.

December: Drawing method: Tablet

Not that much art, but when i did upload, it was amazing! My most recent deviation, [link], was apparently so good my father thought i was lying when i told him i drew it! Then he started in on a big conversation about my oldest brother, whom is also an artist.



So a lot of improvement happened within the year I've been on here. I think i wouldn't have drawn as much as i did if i hadn't gotten those requests early on. That told me that people liked my art enough to want me to draw for them. That encouraged me to want to improve.

What i do to improve? I practice. I redraw pictures i liked from manga or other artists, sketch a lot, etc. It may be cliche, but practice does make perfect! And if you don't improve, try changing your drawing style. Some people just can't draw certain styles no matter how hard they try (trust me, I feel your pain on that. So many beautiful styles.... that i can't draw xD).
